The D.P.W. is available around the clock including weekends and holidays to respond to blocked sewers and related backups. If the problem is located in the public sewer there is no charge for our service. The following fees are charged to clear a blockage in the building sewer serving individual properties: $97 from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM on normal work days; $239 during other hours and weekends and holidays. D.P.W. emergency employees can be reached when the Town Hall is closed by calling the Police Dept. at 786-4767. The property owner is responsible for the cost of clearing blockages on the building sewer that serves only his house regardless if the blockage is in the street or on his property. We guarantee the work we do for a 3 month period unless the problem is from roots and then the guarantee is for 6 months if a private tree or 2 years if a public shade tree.
The Department of Public Works can advise you as the availability of sewer service in the community. Should Sewers be available or become available you will need to obtain a permit to connect. Generally the Department will arrange for the installation of the building sewer from the public sewer in the street in front of your property to your front lot line. The minimum charge for new building sewer connections are: 4" diameter pipe for single family home - $1,310.00; 6"diameter pipe for 2-4 family homes - $1,365.00. These are minimum charges to be paid at the time of application, and additional cost will be billed upon installation of the connection. Items not included in minimum charge include, traffic control officers, controlled density backfill, boring, coring manhole, trench wall support, excavator rental and lenghts over 25 feet. The cost of building sewer already installed as part of a sewer extension project must be paid in full upon application.

Should a building sewer or a porton thereof become unservicable the DPW does offer a service to repair or replace it. There is a minimum charge to be paid at the time of application of $725.00. This charge covers the replacement of up to 10 feet of pipe. If over 10 feet of pipe must be replaced the additional pipe is billed at $25.00 per foot.
There is a charge of $547 per dwelling or business unit for each new unit connecting to the municipal sewer system. This charge represents a proportinate share of the investment the Town has made in the general benefit itemd of the sewer system such as pumping stations, force mains, coolector sewers and interceptor sewers.
