8/21/2009 - Agawam Public Art Displays

PRESS RELEASE

FOR SEPT 2009

The Agawam Garden Club will be utilizing The Johnson Memorial Display Case at the Agawam Public Library.  The Club was established on May 8th 1934.  In celebration of the club’s 75th anniversary, the club members will display old programs, newspaper articles, garden art, a variety of arrangements, club history, etc. during the month of September.

In the double glass cases and on the lower level walls, Thousand Cranes Studio will feature art of students ages 5 -18. This will be work that they have created at the studio over the past spring and summer.  Work features both individual projects as well as studio lesson work, in a wide variety of media.  Enrollment is underway for the fall programs.  Anyone interested may contact Sheila Coly at the studio (789-1039) or register on-line at www.thousandcranesstudio.com.

Danny White will be showcasing his art work at the Agawam Public Library during the month of September. This year’s show will be mixed medium on slate. Mostly celebrated and favorite characters will adorn the slates.  “Nightmare before Christmas,” Casper & Wendy, “Precious Moments,” and Betty Boop are some of the featured artwork.  He has jokingly said that this year, he’s “making a clean slate of it.”

Danny is a Feeding Hills resident and Agawam High School graduate.  For the past two years, he’s been looking for inspiration for the show and learning how to tattoo.  When asked about tattooing, Danny replied, “I think that tattooing is the ultimate compliment for an artist; someone wants a piece of artwork that you design or draw on their body forever.  That’s really cool.”  He has plans of opening a shop in the future, somewhere in the area.

When not painting, tattooing, or riding his Harley, Danny is an avid gardener and is writing a horror novel.

Stop by and check out the gallery walls for this featured exhibition.

Viewing hours will be during regular library hours.
