7/13/2010 - Adult Summer Reading Program "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane”

PRESS RELEASE

JULY 2010

The Adult Summer Reading Program “READ, RELAX, REVIEW 2010” at the Agawam Public Library is pleased to present Katherine Howe, author of “The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane”.  This special “AuthorTalk” will be on Tuesday, July 13th at 7 p.m.

in the Community Room.

It is a book about a woman, an abandoned house near Salem, MA, and a key.  Mrs. Howe has woven a tale that tells another side of the witchcraft hysteria—what if some of it really happened?

Graduate student Connie Goodwin needs to spend her summer doing research for her doctoral dissertation. However, when her mother asks her to handle the sale of her grandmother’s abandoned home, Connie becomes drawn into the mysteries of the family house.  She discovers an ancient key hidden in an old bible.  The key contains a yellow fragment of parchment with a name on it - Deliverance Dane.

Katherine Howe’s family members include Elizabeth Proctor who survived the Salem witch trials, and Elizabeth Howe who did not.  Mrs. Howe lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts with her husband and assorted animals.
