In the month of July, the Agawam Public Library will feature a colored-pencil artist. Kathleen Cournoyer is a retired English teacher turned colored-pencil artist as well as the designer of a line of high-end greeting cards.
She began colored-pencil painting several years ago and has developed her traditional style by achieving the look of pastels by using a sanded paper which allows her to achieve an element of control and a precise, neat quality to her work.
Kathleen has been studying at the Holyoke Creative Arts Center for several years and has had several works exhibited at the Wistariahurst Museum. She has won several ribbons in the Colored-Pencil category.
She is particularly interested in capturing the beauty of nature, especially of flowers. Also of interest to her is creating the look of rough textures such as wood grains, the reflections of light on shiny. These themes are repeated in many works in this collection, which will be located on the gallery walls.
Viewing hours are during regular library hours.
