1/2/2012 - Agawam Library Art Exhibits for the month of January

For the month of January, the Agawam Public Library is pleased to have local artist, Larry J. Shortell,
display  his photography on the gallery walls, the lower level walls, and in the Johnson Memorial and
lower level cases. The exhibition will be a selection of his photographs in the categories of flora, fauna,
people, and places.  His photographs have been taken from around the world.  His photographs are not
digitally enhanced. Larry Shortell has been a teacher for fourteen years in Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, Laos, and New England.  During his fifteen summers off, he has travelled and taken photographs in all fifty states and over eighty countries.  He has visited each of the seven continents at least twice, has completed two around-the world trips, and he has another one planned.  He has been selling photography professionally since 2005 at art shows and online.  In May 2011, he had his first book published entitled:  Summers off:  the Worldwide Adventures of a Schoolteacher.  This book is an alphabetical journey of his most memorable experiences from around the world.  Larry’s photography company is entitled Natural Wonders.  His slogan is "nature...as it was intended."  His photographs have appeared in restaurants and other businesses.  He has won photography contests in Massachusetts and Connecticut.  He also has been a paid judge at photography contests.

The Agawam Public Library is pleased to have Carl Beane, “The Voice of Fenway Park,” display his fascinating collection for the month of January. The display will be set up on January 4.

There will be hockey sticks from Gordie Howe, Patrick Roy, Bobby Orr and others given to Carl by the players themselves.  From Carl’s collection of baseball items, there will be caps from Manny Ramirez, Dice-K, Dustin Pedroia, Cal Ripken, Jr., Ted Williams (when he managed the Washington Senators), and Derek Jeter.  In addition, added attractions will be papers and memorabilia.  Other items in the display will be jerseys from Wade Boggs, Kevin Garnett, Tom Brady, and Bruins goalie Tim Thomas.

Carl is a native of Agawam, now residing in Holland, MA.  He has been in the radio broadcasting profession since 1972.  Presently, Beane is an independent contract with ESPN Radio, WBZ in Boston, WFAN in New York City, Sirius NFL Radio Satellite Network, and the Mighty 1090 in San Diego, California, all utilizing his services as a field reporter.  Since 1977, he has covered the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and the Celtics.  Since 2003, he has been the voice of Fenway Park and was behind the microphone in 2004 and 2007 when the Boston Red Sox won the World Series.
