4/1/2012 - Agawam Library Art Exhibits for the month of April

For the month of April, The Agawam Public Library is pleased to present photographer Amy S. Dane and her exhibit “Favorite Faces from the Silk Road.”  The exhibit may be seen on the library’s Gallery Walls and Lower Level Walls from April 3 through April 30.

Join Amy Dane as she follows in the footsteps of early explorers who made their way from East to West travelling by caravan of camels laden with goods including silk, jewels, spices, and tea.   Starting her journey in Almaty, Kazakhstan, backtracking through the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China, continuing through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and finally Turkmenistan, Dane soaked in the varied landscape including desert and snow covered mountains along with blue tiled mosques and monuments glinting in sunlight.

Her photography exhibit, however, takes the viewer through the local bazaars, markets, squares and alleys of both big city and tiny town to meet the people who inhabit this vast region.  Their faces tell their stories.  You’ll be greeted by people of all ages, many flashing smiles of gold teeth, as they work, socialize or enjoy their local parks and festivals.

Amy Shammash Dane, a native of Longmeadow, MA, suffers from a lifelong travel addiction that has brought her to almost 90 countries so far.  She enjoys sharing her experiences by giving culturally informative presentations about her travels and exhibiting her photography at libraries, hospitals and galleries.  Please visit her website at www.amydaneadventures.com.

Amy is a part-time travel agent for Great Dane Travel, a Travel Companion affiliate, and a docent for the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts.  She received her B.A. (Smith College) and M.A. (Williams College) in Art History.  She served as Education Coordinator at the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum for 11 years developing museum tours and school outreach programs.
