For the month of May the Agawam Public Library will be displaying on the Gallery Walls the drawings, watercolors, and digital photography of Karen Foss.
Karen is a member of the Agawam Community Artists and Artisans. She is primarily self-taught, and has drawn from many resources in the community. Photography, arts and crafts, drawing, and gardening have all helped her to gain an understanding of color theory, light source, and creating a focal point in her compositions. She enjoys combining recycled/reclaimed materials with traditional and non-traditional techniques.
Nature’s classroom of watching chartreuse greens in the spring turn to deep emerald greens of the summer or the summer grasses turning softly pink to tawny gold in the autumn has shown Karen the subtleties of color and light and how they can create a mood.
Her colored pencil drawings combine pencils, pen & ink, and pencil dust. Her watercolors are on canvas with recycled papers applied to the surface to create texture. Her digital photography does not use computer enhancement or flash.
