Turning Conflicts into Teachable Moments

Just as children must learn to read and write they must also learn how to handle conflicts at home, school, the playground, etc. As parents and caretakers, we support our children’s learning by ensuring they complete their homework assignments and prepare for tests however, how can we help our children learn to manage their emotions and handle conflicts.

Merrie-Beth Cleary & Polina Jitov, Adjustment Counselors with the Agawam School Department, will share what programs are being taught and used at our schools to help students resolve matters with their peers. Their interactive presentation will highlight:

~ The Second Step Violence Prevention Program ~

~ PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports)

~ SWAT strategy (Stop, Walk, and Talk)
