For the month of January, the Agawam Public Library will be showcasing the third photography exhibit by local resident Geraldine Schilling-Nordal. It will be displayed on both the upper and lower levels of the library. The new exhibit covers a wide range of subjects from portraits, nature, interior, buildings, and atmosphere to cityscapes. Some have been taking locally and others have been taken on cruises or bus trips. Lately she has travelled to the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, the Atlantic Ocean, Labrador Sea, Greenland Sea, and the Norwegian Sea. These journeys have taken her to areas around the Tropic of Cancer, and she has been up over the Arctic Circle twice.
Geraldine was a faculty member of the Art Department at the Agawam High School for forty six years before her retirement in 2003. She will turn eighty the first week in February and says this will be her last big exhibit though she still hopes to continue traveling. Mrs. Schilling-Nordal has no training in the medium of photography but says she has been fortunate to see and appreciate what others might miss. Some of the pictures were chosen for their content and educational value and others for their sheer beauty. They all speak for themselves.
