11/18/2008 - Community Shredding Area now available!

Recycle With Care - Shred confidential documents!

If you don't have a personal shredder, the Department of Public Works has a Community Shredder available for public use.

Location:  Department of Public Works at 1000 Suffield Street.
                 Front Lobby

Hours:      Monday - Friday

8:30am - 4:00pm

Residents are welcome to bring in their confidential documents they wish to shred.  This is a self service area and residents are asked to limit their shredding to no more than a recycling bins worth of paperwork per visit - if others are waiting. The DPW will be sure all shredded paper is collected for recycling.

Many people still combine paper containing confidential or personal information with their regular trash.  Tossing personal information containing social security numbers, bank account numbers, or other personal information into the trash could be an invitation for identity thieves, especially if the trash is left on the curb or in a dumpster for an extended period of time.

Shredded paper is recyclable and valuable.  Last year the town of Agawam recycled 1369 tons of paper.  That was a disposal savings of $106,782 to the town!  The town is asking that you protect yourself by shredding your documents and recycle them to help keep disposal costs down in town.
