                                                             Health Department

                                                                                                                             COVID- 19 Vaccination Plan

The Agawam Health Department at this time would like to notify residents of Agawam/ Feeding Hills the rollout plan for COVID-19 vaccination.

As most of you are aware the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has a Phased approach to disseminating the vaccine to select populations in the Commonwealth.   This approach will be done in 3 phases, rolled out over several weeks and months.  Local municipalities must work with MDPH regarding the release of vaccine and when.

Currently we are in Phase 1; this includes first responders and health care workers in direct contact with COVID infected patients.  Next are Long term care facilities, group homes, shelters, and congregate living facilities.  To complete this phase will be home-based healthcare workers and other health care workers providing care to non-COVID people.

The anticipated rollout of Phase 2 will begin sometime in February – March, once all the eligible Phase 1 recipients have received it.   Once again it will be rolled out in Tiers:  Tier 1: Begins with age 75 and over, and people with 2+ comorbidities (high risk for COVID-19 complications), Tier 2: select occupational categories, and then Tier 3:  65 + and Tier 4: individuals with one comorbidity.

Phase 3 roll-outs should be starting sometime April - June, for the general public

Currently, two sites in Massachusetts are taking appointments for eligible Phased groups online they are:

UMass Amherst:  www.umass.edu/coronavirsu/vaccine

Associates in Women’s Healthcare, PC:    vaccine@associateswomenshealthcare.com

These sites are not taking phone calls.  You must register through their websites; expect a wait for a confirmed appointment.

Currently, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is working to partner with large venues across the state to offer additional vaccination sites.

As vaccine becomes available, and vaccination sites are up and running; notification will be made available from this website, the local cable access Channel 15 and Mayoral press releases. Please do not call the Health Department as we are updating these sites on a regular basis.

Please be patient as this is a monumental program.
