[ARCHIVED] Holiday Recycling

theme-holiday-recycling

Every year around this time, millions of gifts are given and received with the various holiday celebrations that occur, increasing the amount of waste generated that could be recycled!  The following are some guidelines for recycling during the holidays:

Please DO include the following items in your paper recycling mix:

• corrugated cardboard boxes – boxes may be flattened, broken down to 3’x3’ and stacked next to the recycling cart during the holiday season.  This will allow extra room in the recycling cart for other items.
• paperboard gift boxes
• greeting cards (except those with foil, metallic inks, or glitter)
• gift wrap, gift bags, tissue wrap (except those with foil, metallic inks, or glitter)
• paper shopping bags (any type of handle is okay)
• catalogs and calendars

Please DO NOT include the following items in your recycling mix:

• ribbons, bows, and tinsel
• packing peanuts and Styrofoam (re-usable, contact your local pack and ship store)
• holiday lights
• blister packaging (formed plastic packaging used to hold toys and electronics)
• bubble wrap
• plastic bags
• photographs

Holiday lights are NOT recyclable in the town’s household recycling because they get wrapped around the sorting equipment at the recycling facility.
